Okay, Internet sociologists and others who stumble my way. Here is what I have been looking at for the past FOUR HOURS.
This is after several days of looking at the same thing.
How do you get past severe writer’s block?

Well, in painting the first thing you do is completely cover the page in a thin wash of a blend of colors, step back, and see what “emerges” from the mess. The idea is that vast expanses of white is psychologically daunting.
Perhaps fill the page with jibberish? Or get drunk and THEN write. I find that this works wonders (but it requires extensive editing the next day).
I use a manuscript template and go from there.
Comment by Anomie April 28, 2008 @ 7:01 pmWell, what’s even worse is that I already have an outline. I actually already have a draft. I just need to rewrite… and I’m STILL stuck.
Drinking won’t work. I have about 0% tolerance for drinking. I take a sip, and I’m very very drunk. Although amusing for friends, it would result in either jibberish — or very bad poetry. Either way, doesn’t seem like the way to go.
I need to come up with some kind of dance to bring down the writing gods I think. At the very least, it would amuse my office mate.
Comment by pitse1eh April 29, 2008 @ 10:49 amHeya. I’ve been head-down busy for a while now, so I just saw this. Not that I have solved writer’s block or anything, but what I do when it’s really bad is read about writing. Like Becker or this one. Somehow, that helps me in a back door kinda way.
Comment by kristina b May 7, 2008 @ 3:21 pmA book for my list. Thank you.
Comment by pitse1eh May 7, 2008 @ 9:49 pmI’m going to camp at the library tomorrow. I will be victorious! I shall overcome! I have to. One of them is due Friday. Nothing like a deadline to make you write through the pain.
