So, we’re all overly familiar by now with Palin and the large amount of money the RNC spent on her clothing. Recently, I heard that they spent 22,000 on her make-up artist in two weeks.
Okay, so for someone who makes less in a year than that make-up artist made, I find this shocking. But, I also have no clue what kind of money it takes to buy a wardrobe to run for VP. What women wear in politics (men too, to an extent) is always a matter of discussion. It’s often used as a critique of that woman. Remember Hillary Clinton’s cleveage? The long discussion of what she should wear when it was BILL who was running? Not to mention when she did. I’ve heard over and over again about Palin’s “hooker” boots. Interesting comments of them here. And, I must admit that her commit: “the heels are on, the gloves are off” made me sick (and made me yell at McCain during the debate that she is NOT my role model — though her level of … umm… not smartyness also contributed a bit). But, still, I find myself wondering how much the critique on monies spent on her has to do with the fact that she is a woman.
This makes me ask a few questions:
Did the republican party find it necessary to dress her up so fancily because she was a woman? Making it more likely that this critique would happen? How much do people normally spend on the type of wardrobe needed to dress appropriately on this national stage? I looked around some of the websites for the stores she shopped at, and many of the suits are pretty darn expensive. And, of course, we have the boots. High heels by designers can cost much more than suits. Also, how much does Joe Biden spend on clothes? What if the DNC needed to outfit him because he hasn’t been a senator on the national stage previously?
Basically, I’ve been away for a while, and not able to read all the blogs. Does anyone analyze this? I don’t know what to think — not that it matters, I still am not a Palin fan.
